The journeys this instrument has taken us on have led to our making of other unique and beautiful wind instruments such as our own all Australian Outback Sax and bamboo flutes. Walking the Beauty Way

Sometimes as flutemakers and artisans we can lose sight of the essence of what we are doing - bringing music into the world.  Small details can take up our attention, especially in this day and age of answering emails, returning phone calls, planning festivals etc.  As well, getting caught up in the details of the flute itself can limit our eyes to what this particular flute is trying to become.  We can get caught up in a rigid idea of what a flute 'should be' - much as we can sometimes do with ourselves and other people!

Many times we have made a flute that seemed a bit 'different'....maybe it was a bit larger than most people would like, the tuning was slightly different than 'normal' or perhaps the wood itself wasn't immediately 'beautiful'.  Sometimes flutes like this have hung around in our workshop for years, only to greet the sunrise one day to find that finally their owner has turned up!  It is amazing to see how perfect these particular flutes are for their owners when they connect.

I have always loved the concept of the 'beauty way', a total philosophy of walking in beauty at every step of each day, finding the beauty in all things.  The flutes I am talking about above really seem to have a particular soul song which perhaps the world really needs to hear.  We too all have our soul songs - is the world hearing yours?
